Cell Biotech announced that, in celebration of the Lunar New Year, it donated 500 kg of white rice to the Gimpo Welfare Foundation to share warmth with the local community. The donation is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts aimed at supporting vulnerable groups during the holiday season, based on its commitment to mutual growth with the Gimpo region where its headquarters is located.
The donation ceremony was attended by Lee Hyun-yong, Plant Manager of Cell Biotech, and Cho Sun-hee, President of the Gimpo Welfare Foundation. The company delivered its “Rice of Love,” which will be distributed sequentially to low-income families, seniors living alone, and other vulnerable residents through social welfare facilities across Gimpo City.
Guided by the management philosophy that sustainable corporate growth stems from coexistence with the local community, Cell Biotech has consistently practiced ESG management centered on social contribution and environmental protection. In 2024, the company donated 10,000 health functional food products worth approximately KRW 300 million to the Gimpo Welfare Foundation. In addition, employees voluntarily collected and donated around 1,000 items to Good-will store, supporting resource circulation and job creation for people with disabilities.
The company is also carrying out circular social contribution initiatives that promote environmental coexistence. To eco-friendly reuse fermentation by-products generated during probiotic production, it registered its “lactic acid bacteria fermentation extract” as an organic farming material and upcycled it into an eco-friendly fertilizer branded “BioLacto,” which is donated to the local community.
Cell Biotech has expanded this ESG framework across its production sites. The company has obtained ISO 14001 certification, the international standard for environmental management systems, and installed solar power and geothermal energy facilities capable of generating approximately 320,000 kWh of electricity annually. These efforts reflect its proactive response to increasingly stringent environmental regulations and carbon neutrality policies in global markets, including Europe.
Building on this foundation of sustainable management, Cell Biotech exports its probiotic brand “DUOLAC” to 55 countries worldwide, including key European markets such as Denmark, Germany, and Turkey. Since 2013, the company has maintained its position as Korea’s No. 1 exporter of probiotics for 12 consecutive years.
Lee Hyun-yong, Plant Manager of Cell Biotech, said, “We are pleased to share warmth with the local community during the Lunar New Year holiday. We will continue to strengthen our ESG management so that corporate growth can translate into social value and work together with the community to build a sustainable future.”
Cho Sun-hee, President of the Gimpo Welfare Foundation, commented, “We sincerely appreciate Cell Biotech for consistently practicing sharing for the local community. We will ensure that the donated items are carefully delivered to vulnerable residents and social welfare facilities in Gimpo City, where they can make a meaningful difference.”
