Cell Biotech, Korea's No. 1 probiotics exporter for 13 consecutive years, is accelerating the global expansion of Korean probiotics by strengthening collaboration with healthcare professionals worldwide.
The company recently hosted 64 key doctors and business partners from Indonesia and Singapore at its headquarters in Gimpo, Korea, where they were introduced to Cell Biotech's research and development (R&D) capabilities and state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities as part of a global partnership program.
The visit was designed to provide participants with first-hand experience of Cell Biotech's proprietary technologies and integrated production infrastructure. Guests toured the company's R&D center and manufacturing facilities to gain insight into its scientific expertise and quality management system, while discussing opportunities to expand cooperation in their local markets. The program also included cultural activities showcasing Korean food and traditions, fostering stronger mutual understanding and long-term partnerships.
Leveraging its technological expertise and global collaborations, Cell Biotech has continued to strengthen its presence in overseas markets. Over the past 13 years, the company has generated KRW 268.8 billion in probiotic exports, accounting for approximately 50% of Korea's cumulative probiotic exports of KRW 538.5 billion during the same period. Today, Cell Biotech exports its Korean probiotics to 55 countries, including Denmark, Türkiye, Russia, and Mexico, reinforcing its position as a global leader in Korean probiotics.
Indonesia and Singapore, whose healthcare professionals participated in the program, are among Cell Biotech's key export markets where the company established an early presence. Cell Biotech entered the Indonesian market in 2001 with its proprietary CBT probiotics and advanced probiotic technologies, and currently holds the No. 1 market share. In Singapore, the company launched its DUOLAC brand in 2015 and has since achieved the No. 1 position in the prescription probiotic (ETC) market.
Indonesia, in particular, is considered one of the most challenging markets due to its strict regulatory requirements, including HALAL certification. The Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) requires probiotic products to register not only the genus and species of each strain, but also the manufacturer's unique strain identification number. In addition, products must be supported by scientific evidence, including human clinical studies, to be approved as Health Supplements.
To date, only 103 probiotic strains have been registered with BPOM worldwide, six of which are proprietary CBT probiotic strains developed by Cell Biotech. These include CBT-LR5, CBT-LA1, CBT-LP3, CBT-BG7, CBT-BF3, and CBT-ST3, all of which are key strains used in DUOLAC products and serve as a strong foundation for the company's global competitiveness.
At the core of this competitiveness is Cell Biotech's proprietary 'Dual Coating' technology. The technology encapsulates live probiotics in dual protective layers of protein and polysaccharides, shielding them from stomach acid and bile while enabling safe delivery to the intestine. Human clinical studies have demonstrated that Dual Coating technology delivers up to 221 times greater intestinal survival compared with non-coated probiotics.
The technology also provides exceptional stability under extreme temperature conditions, an important advantage for global exports. In temperature stability tests conducted at 40°C for two weeks, Dual Coating probiotics demonstrated survival rates that were thousands of times higher than those of non-coated probiotics. Cell Biotech has earned recognition for its outstanding performance across diverse climates—from the freezing winters of Russia to the tropical heat of Southeast Asia—supporting the company's successful exports to 55 countries worldwide.

A Cell Biotech official said, "In many countries, including Indonesia and Singapore, probiotic products are primarily distributed through physicians and pharmacists, making the trust of healthcare professionals a critical factor in market competitiveness. This invitation program provided an opportunity to directly showcase DUOLAC's technological excellence and product quality to local healthcare professionals and business partners while further strengthening our foundation for collaboration. Building on this momentum, we will continue to expand our engagement with healthcare professionals worldwide and accelerate our global market expansion."
